Simultaneous synthesis of hydroxyapatite fibres and β-tricalcium phosphate particles via a water controlled-release solvothermal process

Abstract

Fibrous hydroxyapatite was synthesised from α-tricalcium phosphate in ethanol and acetic acid solutions via a water controlled-release solvothermal process (WCRSP). Rice-like particles of β-tricalcium phosphate were formed by adjusting the solvent conditions. Results indicated that the water concentration achieved in the WCRSP is essential for determining crystal phase and morphology.
