Photoredox-catalyzed hydroxydifluoroacetylation of alkenes with FSO2CF2CO2Me and H2O: simple synthesis of CF2CO2Me-containing alcohols and difluorolactones

Abstract

Photoredox-catalyzed hydroxydifluoroacetylation of alkenes with FSO2CF2CO2Me and H2O is presented. In this reaction, –CF2CO2Me and –OH groups are simultaneously introduced into the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bond of the alkenes using fac-[Ir(ppy)3] as the photocatalyst under visible light irradiation giving CF2CO2Me-containing alcohols and/or difluorolactones in high yields with high regioselectivity under mild conditions.
