Visible-light-induced anti-Markovnikov hydrosulfonation of styrene derivatives

Abstract

A visible-light-induced anti-Markovnikov hydrosulfonation reaction of styrene derivatives with sodium sulfinates has been developed under mild conditions. This method exhibits good functional-group tolerance in styrenes and sodium sulfinates to afford various sulfones in moderate to good yields with high regioselectivity. Mechanistic investigation indicates that a visible light-induced radical process was involved in the transformation.
