α-Fe2O3/NiO p-n hierarchical heterojunction for triethylamine sensitive detection

Abstract

The novel p-n heterojunction of α-Fe2O3/NiO composite was prepared by a precipitation and hydrothermal ways. The structure, morphology and composition of the composite were characterized by numerous spectrum technologies and the gas sensing properties to trimethylamine (TEA) also were tested. The results showed that the composite (Fe/Ni = 4:1 atomic ratio) exhibits response approximately 4 times of α-Fe2O3 ,and has a fast response, excellent selectivity, stability and linear response in 5 to 25 ppm TEA at 140 oC, which benefits from the big specific surface of hierarchical structures and the formation of p-n heterojunction at interface both metal oxides. Therefore, herein synthesized composite is a hopeful sensing material for the detection of TEA and the work provides a new route to rationally designing sensor structures for realizing synergetic functions of metal oxide semiconductor interfaces.
