Light-driven deracemization of phosphinothricin by engineered fatty acid photodecarboxylase on a gram scale

Abstract

A fatty acid photodecarboxylase (CvFAP) based photobiocatalytic deracemization of phosphinothricin (PPT) was developed. The engineered CvFAP enabled the kinetic resolution of racemic PPT on a gram scale, providing unreacted L-PPT with high yields and excellent stereoselectivity. In contrast to previous biocatalytic approaches, this efficient light-driven process required neither NADPH recycling nor a PPT precursor.
