Amorphous Nickel-Iron Hydroxide Films on Nickel Sulfide Nanoparticles for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Abstract

Efficient, cheap and earth-abundant oxygen evolution reaction catalysts (OER) play a key role in water splitting to generate clean energy. In this article, a novel structure of OER electrocatalysts, Ni-Fe-OH/Ni3S2 nanoparticles on Ni foam based on in-situ and ultrafast two-step growth, were synthesized. And the reasons of the enhanced OER activity are the synergistic effect between amorphous Ni-Fe hydroxide and Ni3S2 nanoparticles. The obtained Ni-Fe-OH/Ni3S2 on Ni foam presents high catalytic activities with a small tafel slope of 54 mV dec-1, a low overpotential of 268 mV to reach current density of 10 mA/cm2 and the long-term durability at a current density of 175 mA/cm2 for 12 h. This work is very beneficial for preparing highly efficient OER electrocatalysts.
