Indenone-fused N-heteroacenes

Abstract

The synthesis and optical, electronic and structural properties of indenone-fused azaacenes are reported. With different fused lengths and units composed of azaacenes, the electronic delocalization was improved and the energy levels were modulated. To gain more insight into these molecules, the frontier molecular orbital energy levels were calculated and single crystal structures were verified by X-ray crystallography. Notably, a kind of balanced ambipolar organic semiconductor based on indenone-fused azaacenes has been detected through a space-charge-limited current (SCLC) method.
