Recent developments in emerging two-dimensional materials and their applications


The technological evolution is increasing for centuries and will possibly increase at a larger level in the 21st century. Now in this age of nanotechnology, the discovery of more economical and sustainable novel materials has considerably increased. The abundant nature of two dimensional (2D) materials has a broad material podium in technical study and for the expansion of nano- and atomic-level applications. The innovation of the Graphene has motivated a huge attention in the study of the other novel 2D materials, known as modern day ‘‘alchemy”, by which scientists are trying to convert most of possible periodic table elements, into the 2D materials structures form. The 2D-material devices with high quality and good optical encoder performance are a multitude of industrial applications. However, their stability and large size development somehow restrict their applications, but these problems can also be overcomed by functionalizing and substrate-based formations of the 2Dmaterials. Therefore, via this review, first, basic attributes of the 2D-materials are described, and the mechanisms to further boost the properties are also summarized. Second, 2D-material applications are discussed with advantages and disadvantages. Finally, some effective device-fabrication approaches like heterostructure approaches are applied to further boost the 2D-material properties, their novel device applications and opportunities are also presented. Through this updated review could provide new avenues for 2D-material synthesis and efficient device development, compared to conventional devices in different fields.
