Ultrathin nanodendrite surrounded PtRuNi nanoframes as efficient catalysts for methanol electrooxidation†
Abstract
Herein, we provided the successful preparation of PtRuNi nanoframes which were surrounded with ultrathin Ru nanodendrites (PtRuNi FDs). Benefiting from the unique three-dimensional open architecture and suitable composition, the mass activity of PtRuNi FDs towards methanol oxidation reaction in acidic electrolyte can reach up to 1.49 A mgPt−1, which is 2.9-fold higher than that of commercial Pt/C and this value is also much higher than those of many reported catalysts. Besides, the catalytic durability of PtRuNi FDs is also impressive. Even after 1000 potential cycles, 78.5% of the mass current density still remains which is superior to those of PtRuNi nanodendrite counterparts and commercial Pt/C. This work highlights a novel structure which combines the merits of nanoframes and nanodendrites.
