Fabrication of multi-walled carbon nanotube–metallic nanoparticle hybrid nanostructure based electrochemical platforms for sensitive and practical colchicine detection

Abstract

Multi-walled carbon nanotube metallic nanoparticle (MWCNT–MNP) hybrid nanostructure based electrochemical platforms were developed for the sensitive and practical detection of colchicine for the first time. Surface characterization and electrochemical performance studies have revealed that the advanced properties of MWCNT with gold and platinum nanoparticles exhibited a synergetic effect on colchicine oxidation. Under optimized conditions, the colchicine oxidation responses linearly increased in the range of 1–100 μM (0.15 M H2SO4, pH 0.72) with a detection limit of 0.015 μM (n = 3). Besides, the performance of the developed sensor was not affected in the presence of organic and inorganic interferents. Colchicine detection in pharmaceutical and synthetic urine samples with recoveries between 98.6% and 100.3% has suggested an alternative method for clinical studies and biomedical applications.
