A multi stimuli responsive material with rhodamine B and carbazole groups†
Abstract
Herein, a novel rhodamine B derivative (CAXO) with multi-stimuli responsive color-change behavior was designed and synthesized. It combined the advantages of better electron transport capability of carbazole and high fluorescence quantum yield of rhodamine. The material displayed excellent photophysical, thermal and electrochemical properties in the ground state. Its color-change behavior under multiple excitation modes was studied. By respectively introducing ions, UV light irradiation and electro-excitation, the spectra of CAXO could be obviously changed. Molecular modeling and NMR spectroscopy were used to verify the rationalization of the multistimulus color-change behavior. Interestingly, the color change property of the material can be reflected in an animal cartoon and ‘SXDX’ logo. We reasonably believe that the material is promising for application in the field of multi-functional photoelectric materials and will provide a new platform for the design and development of excellent materials.
