Rapidly synthesis of hollow PtPdCu trimetallic octahedrons at room temperature for oxygen reduction reaction in acid media

Abstract

Developing low platinum catalysts with high-efficiency, stable properties for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to substitute fossil fuels are of great significance in electrochemical energy conversion devices. Design and synthesis of multi-metallic nanocrystal with hollow structure is an attractive route. As far as we know, it is not easy for rapidly synthesizing multi-metallic alloys at room temperature with morphology and structure maintained at the same time. Herein, a new route for rapidly synthesis of hollow PtPdCu trimetallic octahedrons (PtPdCu HTOs) under mild conditions is presented. Benefit from its hollow structure, porous architecture and trimetallic compositions, the PtPdCu HTOs exhibit excellent activity and durability for ORR in acid media, compared with the JM-Pt/C catalyst. It also has competitive advantage cover the previously reported Pt-based catalysts.
