An unusual homospin CoII ferrimagnetic single-chain magnet with large hysteresis

Abstract

A coordination framework formulated as [Co3(L)4(OH)2(H2O)2]n (1) (L = 4-(tetrazol-5-yl)phenyl-4,2':6',4''-terpyridine) was synthesized and structurally and magnetically characterized. Compound 1 features 1D chains in which the unprecedented triangular non-uniform chains with the mixed μ3-OH, and (μ3-OH)(μ-N-N-tetrazolate)2 bridges are interlinked by the ligands into a 2D coordination framework. Magnetic investigations indicate that the 1D ferrimagnetic chains, single-chain magnet like behavior and large hysteresis coexist in the magnetic system of 1. The activation energies for magnetic reversal in the infinite- and finite-chain regimes are 1/k = 180 K and 2/k = 75 K, respectively.
