Coupling of a novel electrospun polyacrylonitrile/amino-Zr-MOF nanofiber as a thin film for microextraction-corona discharge-ion mobility spectrometry for the analysis of chlorpyrifos in water samples

Abstract

In this study, a polyacrylonitrile/amino-functionalized Zr-metal organic framework (PAN/amino-Zr-MOF) nanofiber film was prepared by the electrospinning technique and evaluated as a new adsorbent for thin-film microextraction before analysis by corona discharge ion mobility spectrometry. Chlorpyrifos, an organophosphorus pesticide used to kill a number of insects and worms, was selected as a model compound for the investigation of this method. A thermal desorption chamber was used for the desorption of analyte from the thin film and its introduction into the corona discharge ion mobility spectrometer. The effects of various parameters, such as desorption temperature, stirring rate, extraction temperature, pH, salt effect and extraction time, on the extraction efficiency were studied. The limit of detection and limit of quantification of this method for chlorpyrifos were found to be 0.6 and 2.0 μg L−1, respectively, and the linear range was obtained to be 2.0–200 μg L−1. The repeatability and reproducibility of the method was less than 11%. This method was successfully employed for analyzing chlorpyrifos in agricultural wastewater and river water samples, and the recovery values for the spike samples were obtained in the range of 86–109%.
