“Reversible” photochromism of polyoxomolybdate–viologen hybrids without the need of proton transfer

Abstract

A case study on two new covalent bonding polyoxomolybdate–viologen hybrids revealed that “reversible” photochromic properties can be achieved without the need of proton transfer, and a weak electron-withdrawing ability of the coordinated ligand favor photoreduction of Mo(VI) to Mo(V).
