Development of Functional Hydrogels for Heart Failure

Abstract

Although some advanced treatment of heart failure (HF) has been greatly developed in recent decades, its morbidity and mortality have not been improved significantly. Hydrogel has some unique advantages for delivery and controlled release of bioactive molecular, drug, cells, which can directly work on heart locally. A lot of studies have proved that hydrogel represents a new approach for the treatment of HF. In this review, we present an up-to-date view of hydrogel-based approaches for cardiac tissue engineering and myocardial regeneration in ischemia-induced HF, with emphasis on functional studies, translational status, and clinical advancements.
