A simple functionalized silica microsphere for fast PETN vapor detection based on fluorescence color changing via catalyzed oxidation process

Abstract

In this work, we reported a new fluorescence material for pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) vapor detection. A series of fluorene substituted vinyl-SiO microsphere with different ratio has been designed and easily synthesized. Sensing films on quartz plates were obtained by solid phase transfer method. With specific diameter of SiO and density of fluorene surrounding, the microspheres performed rapid fluorescent color change via oxidation with high-selective PETN catalyzing. The emission peak at 355 nm rapidly quenched while an enhancement at 525 nm appear under exposure to PETN saturated vapor. Herein, we presented this fluorescent silica nanoparticle as an excellent sensing material towards vapor phase PETN, making contribution to many fields such as public security and military use.
