Retracted Article: Typical and interstratified arrangements in Zn/Al layered double hydroxides: an experimental and theoretical approach

Abstract

Zn/Al layered double hydroxides having typical and interstratified arrangements have been synthesized by a single step hydrothermal method and by microwave assisted route. The LDHs have been characterized with respect to their structural and morphological aspects using PXRD, TG, CHN and SEM-EDX analyses. The mechanism of single anion interstratification has been theoretically justified through simulations performed using Dmol3, Forcite and Reflex modules. The simulations revealed the dependence of interstratification arrangement on size, nature of cations, cationic ratio, morphology of the intercalated anions. The typical LDH phase has been transformed to interstratified LDH by heating and also the interstratified LDH has been reconstructed to normal LDH by rehydration of the sample. A comprehensive mechanism for the typical and single anion interstratification arrangement in LDHs is presented in this work on the basis of the obtained results.
