Delivering carbide ligands to sulfide-rich clusters†
Abstract
The propensity of the terminal ruthenium carbide Ru(C)Cl2(PCy3)2 (RuC) to form carbide bridges to electron-rich transition metals enables synthetic routes to metal clusters with coexisting carbide and sulfide ligands. Electrochemical experiments show the Ru
C ligand to exert a relatively large electron-withdrawing effect compared with PPh3, effectively shifting redox potentials.
