Determination of chromium(iii) by differential pulse stripping voltammetry at a chitosan–gold nanocomposite modified screen printed electrode†
Abstract
We report the modification of screen printed electrodes by simple electrodeposition of chitosan–gold nanocomposites and the application of the modified electrodes for the determination of trivalent chromium, Cr(III), using differential pulse stripping voltammetry (DPSV) for the first time. The electrodes exhibited a significantly increased sensitivity compared to an unmodified screen printed electrode and allowed for the sensing of Cr(III) ions with a linear range from 1 to 100 μM and a limit of detection of 0.4 μM. Besides, the electrodes were used for the determination of chromium in industrial wastewater and showed acceptable results. The disposable nature of the screen printed electrodes makes them attractive for the on-site analysis of Cr(III) in environmental and biological samples.
