Thermodynamic analysis of the synthesis of silicon carbide nanofibers from exfoliated graphite and amorphous silica†
Abstract
A thermodynamic analysis was conducted to clarify the mechanism of formation of SiC nanofibers synthesized from exfoliated graphite and amorphous silica in an Ar/H2 atmosphere. Phase equilibria of reactants and the Gibbs energy change in the unit reactions suggest that the SiC nanofibers are produced via reactions involving H2.
