Inclusion of picolines by a substituted binaphthyl diol host: selectivity and structure

Abstract

The host compound 3,3′-bis(9-hydroxy-9-fluorenyl)-2,2′-binaphthyl forms inclusion compounds with the isomers of picoline. Competition experiments show that the preferred selectivity is in the order 4PIC > 3PIC > 2PIC. The structures of the inclusion compounds formed with each picoline, as well as representative samples from the competition experiments, have been elucidated. The thermal stabilities of the inclusion compounds correlate with the selectivity results.
