A spectrophotometric lipase assay based on substrate–nanoparticle assembly degradation

Abstract

Preliminary analytical characterization of a simple, rapid, sensitive, and cost effective spectrophotometric method for determination of lipase activity is presented in this work. It is based on the spectrophotometric monitoring of the lipolysis of olive oil, deposited on disposable transparent PET strips, and assembled with Fe2O3 nanoparticles, which play a role of a light barrier. The removal of nanoparticles along with oil degradation evolution provokes a diminution of the light absorption, proportional to the enzyme activity.
