In this communication, we report the one-pot synthesis of noble-metal nanoparticles and their concurrent assembly into ordered nanostructures. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and triethylene glycol monododecyl ether (C12EO3) surfactant mixtures formed highly viscoelastic fluids, reflecting the presence of long, wormlike micelles which can be used as a template for making ordered nanostructures via a controlled in situ synthesis of silver and platinum nanoparticles. The simple and versatile approach based on in situ reduction of metal ions opens a new avenue for the development of self-assembled regimented structures by noble-metal nanoparticles.
