Pd–Fe3O4@C hybrid nanoparticles: preparation, characterization, and their high catalytic activity toward Suzuki coupling reactions

Abstract

Pd–Fe3O4@C hybrid nanoparticles with 10 nm Pd nanocrystals deposited on the surface of 120 nm Fe3O4@C core–shell nanospheres have been prepared by the adsorption Pd2+ ions onto the surface of Fe3O4@C nanospheres with highly negative charges and followed by reduction of Pd2+ ions with ethanol at 60 °C. The heterodimer nanocrystals were completely recoverable under an external magnetic field, reused 10 times, and showed excellent activity in various Suzuki coupling reactions at room temperature.
