An unexpected epoxidation of benzil derivatives in their reaction with a germene

Abstract

The germene Mes2Ge[double bond, length as m-dash]CR2 (Mes = 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl, CR2 = fluorenylidene) reacts with various benzil derivatives to lead to germanium-containing bicyclic epoxides by an unexpected new type of epoxidation reaction.
