Covering: 2003 to present

The role of heme in enzymes, globins, and cytochromes has been known for some time and our understanding on how the heme participates in the various functional aspects of these proteins is fairly well advanced. More recent work has uncovered the role of heme as a regulatory molecule and as a gas sensor. Some of the newer advances in the role heme plays in enzyme catalyzed redox transformations and regulation/sensing will be described in this Highlight.
