Chromium, molybdenum and tungsten

Abstract

This chapter reviews the literature reported during 2005 on some important advances in the areas of catalysis, bioinorganic, and organometallic chemistry for the chromium triad. For example, a complex with a five-fold chromium–chromium (Cr–Cr) bonding was reported for the very first time. A wide range of topics involving the bioinorganic chemistry of chromium(III), molybdenum(VI), and tungsten(VI) are highlighted. Other highlights include (i) the production of gaseous H2 and hydrogenation of benzene by H3PMo12O40, (ii) the very first example of a molecular square containing CuS2WS2Cu blocks, and (iii) the photoredox process of a Cr(VI)–Cr(III)–oxalate system and its environmental relevance.
