Abstract

In the area of Li ion cells, highlights have included the observation of a solid solution LixFePO4 at elevated temperatures by Delacourt et al. and further studies of the new promising phosphate fluoride cathode, LiVPO4F, by Barker et al. In the area of solid oxide fuel cells/oxide ion conductors, key highlights have been the structural elucidation of the low temperature form of La2Mo2O9 by Evans et al., and the development of an all perovskite based SOFC by Tao et al. In the area of superconductivity, interesting new work has been reported on K2NiF4 based copper oxide halides, particularly the report by Kajita et al. on the observation of n-type superconductivity on incorporation of Li into Sr2CuO2Br2.
