An empirical method for determining the error introduced by blank corrections on MC-ICP-MS measurements

Abstract

The error introduced by performing blank corrections on MC-ICP-MS measurements is generally ignored, which probably reflects the problems associated with the analytical formula for its propagation. We propose a simple empirical method to assess the magnitude of this error, which can become important when low-level samples are analysed.
