17  Macrocyclic coordination chemistry

Abstract

Highlights include the design of a dicopper(II) cryptate that can be used for the fluorescent detection of dicarboxylate anions in aqueous solution, the translocation of copper(II) centres within a macrocycle to detect imidazole-based moieties, and the design of a cyclohexyl-1,2-diamine derived bis(binaphthyl) macrocycle that demonstrates enantioselectivity in the fluorescent recognition of mandelic acid. The activation of acetonitrile solvent by a dinuclear Cu(II) cryptate is interesting. The undoubted highlight of the year, however, is the realization of a Borromean link from 18 components in a metal-templated assembly.
