12  Vanadium, niobium and tantalum

Abstract

Exciting advances in Group 5 chemistry have occurred in 2003, and are detailed below. In particular, the spontaneous formation of a beautiful hexad of oxovanadium salen complexes, the hydrosilylation of a tantalum dinitrogen complex, the propynylidene complex containing planar tetraco-ordinate carbon, and the stabilisation of a high valent vanadium carbene via Cl–C interactions are significant advances.
