Abstract

A dipolar two-dimensional multifunctional (D–π)3–A dye molecule, 2,4,6-tris(4-octadecyloxystyryl)pyrylium tetrafluoroborate (OP3) was synthesized. The dye molecule was successfully transferred onto an ITO electrode or quartz by LB techniques. The second-harmonic generation (SHG) and photoelectric conversion (PEC) properties of monolayers of this "umbrella-molecule" were studied under 10 mN m−1 and 30 mN m−1 surface pressure. The different tilt angles of the "umbrella-molecules" result in the difference in SHG and PEC properties. Both SHG and PEC properties of OP3 obtained under 30 mN m−1 are better than those obtained under 10 mN m−1.
