Abstract

The coupled technique liquid chromatography-UV irradiation-hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry (LC-UV-HG-AFS) is proposed for selenite, selenate, selenocystine (SeCys) and selenomethionine (SeMet) determination. Separation was performed by using an anionic exchange column and a phosphate buffer as the mobile phase. Hydride generation and UV irradiation were optimised. The detection limits obtained permitted the determination of the four species at trace level concentrations. The method was validated by analysing two water certified reference materials, in which only selenite was detected.
