Chiral modified electrodes. Part 1. Preparation and characterization of a polymeric [Ru(4-methyl-4′-vinylbipyridine)3]2+ electrode
Abstract
By means of reductive electropolymerization of [Ru-(4-methyl-4′-vinylbipyridine)3](PF6)2, thin polymer films of about 5 to 100 monolayers are produced on different substrate electrodes. Chiral coatings are obtained when optically resolved [Ru(vbpy)3](PF6)2 is used. The polycationic films are resistant to penetration by cations, they have an insulating passive and a conducting state. The polymer electrode assemblies were characterized by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. In the conducting state Nernst behavior is observed, conductance is high and Butler–Volmer kinetics at the polymer/supporting electrode interface determine the behavior of the electrode assembly.
