First platinum clusters containing a direct Pt–Si bond: molecular structure of [Pt3{Si(OSiMe3)3}(µ-PPh2)3(PPh3)2] and electrochemical studies

Abstract

The reaction of [Pt3Ph(µ-PPh2)3(PPh3)2] (1) with various silanes and siloxanes afforded the first platinum clusters containing a direct Pt–Si bond that could be characterized by X-ray diffraction, in the case of [Pt3{Si(OSiMe3)3}(µ-PPh2)3(PPh3)2] (2a): the redox properties of the 44-electron clusters 1 and [Pt3{Si(OMe)3}(µ-PPh2)3(PPh3)2] (2b) have been studied by cyclic voltammetry.
