When the ligands go marching in: a step-scan Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic study of ligand attack at the transient species W(CO)5(CyH)

Abstract

Time-resolved step-scan Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (S2FTIR) is used to probe the reactions of the transient species W(CO)5(CyH), produced by photolysis of W(CO)6 in cyclohexane solution, with a series of incoming ligands L. This study marks the first time that S2FTIR has been used to obtain mechanistic information for an irreversible chemical process.
