Volumetric data from light scattering and perturbation theory for carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and dichloromethane

Abstract

The ratio of isothermal compressibility to the square of isobaric expansivity (κTp2) was determined via Rayleigh light scattering experiments for liquid carbon tetrachloride, chloroform and dichloromethane as a function of temperature. This ratio was also calculated by means of renormalized perturbation theory (in the case of polar molecules) and by the use of Johnson–Zollweg–Gubbins equation of state (in the case of carbon tetrachloride), respectively. The data coming from light scattering show reasonable agreement with those from theoretical calculations and from volumetric experiments given in the literature.
