Facile CC bond cleavage of polyynediyldiiron complexes, Fp*–(CC)n–Fp* [Fp* = Fe(η5-C5Me5)(CO)2; n = 3, 4], with Fe2(CO)9 leading to bis(µ3-alkylidyne) complexes, Fp*–CC-µ3-C–Fe3(CO)9–µ3-C–(CC)n–2–Fp*
Abstract
Reaction of the polyynediyldiiron complexes, Fp*–(CC)n–Fp* [Fp* = Fe(η5-C5Me5)(CO)2; n = 3, 4], with Fe2(CO)9 at room temperature results in CC bond cleavage to give the bis(µ3-alkylidyne) complexes, Fp*–CC-µ3-C–Fe3(CO)9–µ3-C–(CC)n–2–Fp*, a trinuclear cluster complex sandwiched by the two conjugated (CC)x–Fe systems.
