Substituted diazacrown ethers. Synthesis, spectral characterization and single-crystal structures of C20H42N2O8(NaI)2·H2O and C20H42N2O8(KI)2·H2O

Abstract

Two N,N ′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) diaza-24-crown-8 potassium and sodium complexes have been prepared by a one-step reaction of ethanolamine with 1,11-dichloro-3,6,9-trioxaundecane. Their structures are ascertained by elemental analyses, 1H, 13C NMR and FTIR spectra. To corroborate further the structure assignments single-crystal structures of the complexes 10,22-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,4,7,13,16,19-hexaoxa-10,22-diazacyclotetracosane-bis(sodium iodide) monohydrate and -bis(potassium iodide) monohydrate were determined. The structural features of the complexes are compared with each other and those of diazacrown ethers and cryptates.
