Macropolyhedral boron-containing cluster chemistry. Mixed and multiple cluster fusion in platinaborane chemistry and the structure of [(PMe2Ph)2PtB16H17PtB10H11(PMe2Ph)] as determined by synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis

Abstract

Multiple cluster fusion between [(PMe2Ph)2PtB8H12] and molten B10H14 gave the 26-boron species [(PMe2Ph)2PtB16H17PtB10H11(PMe2Ph)] which exhibits quite different structural and assembly features to the 26-boron species [(PMe3)2IrB26H24Ir(CO)(PMe3)2] previously prepared from [(PMe3)2(CO)HIrB8H12] and B10H14.
