Metal-ion-directed synthesis of sulfur-based macrocyclic helicates

Abstract

Schiff-base condensation of pyridine-2,6-dicarbaldehyde and 2-[(2-{[(2-aminophenyl)sulfanyl]methyl}benzyl)sulfanyl]aniline led to different helical macrocyclic products depending on the template metal ion; a mono-helical [1 + 1] macrocyclic complex was generated in the presence of Ag I and a double-helical [2 + 2] macrocyclic complex was generated in the presence of Cd II .
