Coupling of acetylide and C2 fragments during cluster condensation: pyrolysis of [{Ru3(µ-H)(µ3-C2But )(CO)8}2(µ-dppa)] [dppa = C2(PPh2)2]

Abstract

Thermolysis of [{Ru 3 (µ-H)(µ 3 -C 2 Bu t )(CO) 8 }(µ-dppa)] [dppa = C 2 (PPh 2 ) 2 ] gave two hexanuclear cluster complexes which were characterised as [Ru 6 5 -Bu t CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CHC 2 PPh 2 )(µ 4 -C 2 Bu t ) ( µ-PPh 2 )(CO) 13 ] and [Ru 6 6 -C 2 CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CHBu t )(µ 3 -C 2 Bu t )(µ-PPh 2 ) 2 (µ-CO)(CO) 12 ] by X-ray crystallography, partial hydrogenation of the C 2 Bu t moiety being confirmed by 1 H NMR spectroscopy.
