Control of intermolecular porphyrin π–π interactions: low-melting liquid-crystal porphyrins with calamitic mesophases

Abstract

By control of intermolecular π–π interactions using ‘flyover’ chains, calamitic nematic mesophases are observed in 5,15-disubstituted zinc porphyrins with greatly reduced melting and clearing points.
