Comparative study on solid crystalline–plastic–vapour equilibrium in plastic crystals from pentaerythritol series

Abstract

Pressure–temperature equilibrium curves of some pentaerythritol derivatives have been determined from sublimation and thermobarometric measurements, on the solid crystalline–plastic–vapour domain. The comparative study has allowed us to analyse the effect that different groups have on the sublimation enthalpy and on the vapour pressure. The results obtained point out that CH2OH groups form stronger hydrogen bonds than NO2, giving rise to greater lattice energy values.
