Isomer counting using point group symmetry

Abstract

The numbers of and symmetries spanned by isomeric derivatives of a molecular framework can be found as explicit functions of the permutation (σ) representation of its vertices. Chiral and achiral derivatives can be counted separately. This pencil-and-paper method is applied to derivatives of isolated-pentagon fullerene isomers C60 to C84.
