Enthalpy changes for the formation of CdA and CdA2 exciplexes in the cadmium(5 3P1)-photosensitized reaction of some substrates in the gas phase

Abstract

The Cd-photosensitized luminescence of some substrates (A) has been investigated by a steady illumination method over a wide range of pressure at several temperatures. The second emission band appeared at high pressures of substrates on the long-wavelength side of the band previously reported, and the intensity of the former band increased with the pressure of substrate. This band was assigned to the CdA2* exciplex. The enthalpy changes (ΔH°1 and ΔH°2) for the first and second attachments of substrates to an excited Cd atom were estimated from the temperature dependences of the intensity ratios of the 326.1 nm resonance line, and the short- and long-wavelength bands.
