Tris{bis[imino(methoxy)methyl]aminato}cobalt(III): an electronic analogue of tris(β-diketonates)

Abstract

The cobalt(III) complex [Co(HNCOMeNCOMeNH)3], i.e.[CoL3], has been prepared from the copper precursor, [CuL2] in a Me2SO–CoS suspension. Its crystal and molecular structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction (R= 0.0577). The crystal consists of isolated molecules exhibiting a {CoN6} chromophore. In solution the complex is ESR silent, evidencing the absence of CoII or CuII. The ligand L generates a rather strong ligand field (Δ/hc= 21 200 cm–1) as follows from an analysis of the electronic spectra.
