The formation and structural characterisation of the transoid4(5e)-butadienyl ligand; evidence for a ‘bent’ rhenium–carbon bond

Abstract

Treatment of [ReBr(η2-PhC2Ph)2(η-C5H5)][PF6] with Li[BHEt3] in THF affords the η2(3e)-vinyl/η2(2e)-alkyne complex [Br[graphic omitted](H)Ph}(η2-PhC2Ph)(η-C5H5)] and the transoid4(5e)-butadienyl complex [BrRe{[double bond, length half m-dash]C(Ph)-η3-C(Ph)C(Ph)C(H)Ph}(η-C5H5)], the latter containing a metal to carbon double bond and a novel ‘bent’ rhenium to carbon bond.
