Carbon dioxide recognition by rhodium(I) complexes studied by infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies and acoustic wave sensor

Abstract

As a continuation of a previous study on CO2 recognition by a thickness-shear mode acoustic wave device coated with a hydroxy complex trans-[carbonylhydroxybis-(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I)](complex I), the effects of temperature and interferents such as water, SO2 and NH3 on the frequency response of the coated device upon exposure to CO2 are reported. A methoxy analogue of the above complex (complex II) has been isolated as a solid. The surface conversion of this compound to complex I by water treatment and its capability for CO2 recognition have been studied using IR and 31P-{1H} NMR spectroscopies as well as with an acoustic wave sensor.
